Deborah Blum represents Keith Alan Raniere in his latest motion to vacate his 2019 conviction.
It may be his last motion to end his incarceration.
Last month Blum filed a letter with Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis asking him to grant her a third extension to file an amended 2255 motion demanding Judge Garuafis admit he did wrong and let that prince of men go free at once.
In 2020, Judge Nicholas Garaufis sentenced Raniere to 120 years in prison plus five years of probation (probation begins in 2120 at the age of 159). Since then, Raniere has tried his best to prove the judge (and the jury were wrong).
Raniere not only lost the trial, he also lost several Rule 33 motions for a new trial and lost his appeal at the Second Circuit. The US Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal.
Raniere, who has informed followers that he is among the top three problem solvers in the world, with an IQ that surpasses Albert Einstien, is down to what looks like a last ditch attempt.
Raniere considered himself a little smarter than Einstien, a bit more moral than Gandhi and a greater athlete than Jim Thorpe.

Keith Raniere has the athleticism of Jim Thorpe, (above) he loved to admit.

In his bio, Raniere boasted of many accomplishments.

Mahatma Gandhi is compared to Keith Raniere by Nxivm members.

Gandhi could learn a lot from this man
He has a 2255 motion, which argues the judge erred in handling his case and the sentencing.

Judge Garaufis sentenced the Vanguard to 120 years.

Raniere relocated to Tucson, Arizona in January 2021. He wants to move out of his gated community and break his 120 year lease.

Clare Bronfman
Clare Bronfman has paid tens of millions to more than a dozen attorneys to help Raniere get out of USP Tucson.
In some respects, it seems unfair for Bronfman to shoulder the entire burden.

I’ve put Nice Guy, Nut Job, Ice Nine, Bangkok and Pilgrim down for a generous contribution. Please no donations less than $5.
Though Raniere’s lease appears ironclad, attorney Blum is a go-getter and is working diligently. She informed Judge Garaufis, that she is working full time for Raniere (on Bronfman’s dime).
Apropos of this valiant – fully funded effort, Blum asked the judge for a little more time to perfect Raniere’s 2255 to show the judge how wrong he was. This is her third request.
But she has a good reason.
She met with Raniere, and the genius has a new plan to make his motion fool proof.
Blum wrotee:
Your Honor…. I am requesting a final extension of time… to October 7th, 2024….
I have dedicated the work-week and weekends to working on the 2255 and still have a ways to go to get it fully drafted and ready to file….
“Since being engaged by Mr. Raniere, I have shifted my primary focus to his work…”
She joins a long list of attorneys who have so shifted on the Bronfman dime.
Meets With the Great One
The good news is Blum flew to Tucson to meet Vanguard (the name Raniere is known by his followers).
She had two remarkable meetings for three hours each last month.
Blum told the judge
On August 19th and 20th, I met with Mr. Raniere for the first time, and spent six (6) hours with Mr. Raniere at USP Tucson in Arizona. During the visits, Mr. Raniere and I addressed his preferred strategy, which changes the course of the submission, and items that now need to be researched and incorporated into the draft. Further, it became clear to me that I would need to have an additional visit with him prior to being able to submit the 2255. An in-person visit is the most effective way for me to communicate with Mr. Raniere. It is unrealistic that the visit could occur within the next two (2) weeks given the staffing constraints at his facility.
